Mouse Barley Grass Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This decorative annual grass has clumps of green leaves with soft green spiklets often tinged red.

They make an excellent choice for growing in between flowers in mixed borders adding height and providing movement and structure.

Cut during summer to dry to use in flower arrangements.

Loam, chalk or sandy soil that's acidic, all or neutral

Also known as Hordeum Jubatum

The seed can be sown thinly directly outside between April - May into finely raked moist soil where they are to grow covering lightly.

When the seedlings emerge thin to about 8cm apart allowing the young plants to grow on where they will flower.

Alternatively sow into a seed tray on a sunny window sill from March.

When the seedlings are large enough to handle pot on in to individual pots to grow on.

Gradually harden off the plants before planting them out after the risk of frost has passed.
