Gourd Ornamental Turks Turban Seeds

Turk’s Turban is an eye-catching ornamental gourd with a distinctive two toned, turban-like shape.

 

The fruits feature a bright mix of orange, red, green, and cream hues, making them perfect for autumn displays, decorative centrepieces, and craft projects.

 

While primarily grown for ornamental purposes, they are also edible and can be used in soups and stews when harvested young.

 

These vigorous, trailing plants produce large, sprawling vines that thrive in warm, sunny conditions. Best grown in rich, well-drained soil, they benefit from ample space to spread or can be trained up trellises and supports for a striking visual effect.

Sowing Instructions:

 

For indoor sowing, start seeds in individual pots filled with moist seed compost. Sow 1–2 cm deep, keep at a temperature of 18–22°C, and ensure good airflow to prevent damping off. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost, spacing them 90 cm apart in a warm, sunny location.

 

For direct outdoor sowing, wait until all risk of frost has passed. Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep, in well-prepared soil enriched with compost. Place 2–3 seeds per hole, thinning to the strongest seedling once germinated. Water regularly, especially during dry spells.
