Geum Lady Stratheden RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Geum 'Lady Stratheden', a robust and vibrant perennial, is cherished for its semi-double, golden-yellow blooms that rise gracefully above compact mounds of textured green foliage. This variety is a standout for its sunny disposition and exceptional garden performance.

The genus name Geum is derived from the Greek word geno, meaning "to yield an agreeable fragrance," though this species is famed for its visual charm rather than scent. Awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM), Geum 'Lady Stratheden' is recognised for its reliability, adaptability, and outstanding performance in UK gardens. Its inclusion in the RHS Seed Scheme highlights its exceptional quality, making it a must-have for gardeners of all experience levels.

This hardy perennial thrives in moist but well-drained soil and flourishes in full sun to partial shade. Growing to a height of 50 - 60 cm, it is ideal for brightening mixed borders, cottage gardens, and wildlife-friendly spaces. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, supporting biodiversity throughout the summer months.

Sowing Instructions
Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from January to March. Lightly press seeds onto the surface and cover with a thin layer of compost or vermiculite. Keep at a temperature of 15-20°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once large enough to handle, and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared soil from April to June. Scatter seeds thinly, cover lightly with fine soil, and keep the area moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to a spacing of 30 cm for optimal growth.

An RHS-recognised treasure, Geum 'Lady Stratheden' offers vibrant colour, wildlife appeal, and low-maintenance care. Whether adorning borders or softening edges, this award-winning perennial is a versatile and reliable choice for any garden.
