This upright perennial herb has attractive green feathery foliage that has a sweet aniseed flavour the seeds that are produced during summer have a slightly stronger flavour all parts of this herb can be used in cooking. It also would make a great impact planted amongst flowers in a mixed border.

Sow thinly from March - May outside where they are to grow 1.5cm deep into finely raked well drained soil that has already been watered. Thin the seedling to 30cm apart and keep well watered until the plants are established.
Germination takes 7 - 21 days

Fennel does not make a good companion plant in the vegetable garden so it is best planted on its own or in the flower border. It's excellent for attracting wildlife into the garden.
Pick the leaves and stems as required and harvest the ripe seed once they have turned brown.
A good source of vitamin C 
Use in salads, stuffings, dressings, fish dishes and teas
