Carrots need a firm fertile crumbling soil that has not been recently manured in a sunny spot.
Sow from February onwards under cloches to harvest a crop from July onwards and successional sowings through to July. The seed is extremely small but try to sow as thinly as possible in drills 1cm deep and in rows 15cm apart when the seedlings appear thin to around 5cm apart. Try to thin in the evening to avoid carrot fly although this variety does have a good carrot fly resistance.
Keep well watered to avoid the carrots turning woody.
Germination takes between 14 and 21 days.
Sow February - July
Harvest May - November
Companion Plants Leeks, onions, parsley, radish, tomato, lettuce and marigolds.
Do not plant with kohlrabi, parsnip or fennel.
Pull up the small carrots from June onwards. October is the time to lift the main crop for overwintering. If the ground is hard ease them up with a fork.
A good source of vitamin A.
Use for Boiling and steaming and using raw in salad.
