Acidic Soil..
Acidic soil is usually deep and rich made up of minerals and organic material built
up over time often peaty and nutrient rich, woodland areas are usually acidic due to leaf fall over time and moist conditions.  Having acidic soil will enable you to grow a large range of beautiful plants that are unable to grow in alkaline soil such as Camellia, Heather's, Rhododendron, Azalea and Acer's with their lovely autumn foliage to name a but few. These plants thrive and flourish in acid soil and if they were to be grown in alkaline soil would suffer, the leaves will yellow and the plant will not thrive and they would look extremely sick and probably die.

It's possible to grow a variety of acid loving plants in pots and containers using ericaceous compost if your soil is to alkaline. When the plants are fed ensure you use an ericaceous plant food a liquid feed is ideal and easy to use for all container grown plants.
