Xotica Collection Asparagus Lettuce Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This tall lettuce is grown for its pale green stems that have a mild slightly nutty flavour with a crunchy texture.

The leaves can also be eaten use both in stir fry and salads.

Sow every two weeks for a continuous supply.

Germination 7 - 14 days

Loam or sandy soik that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest May - October

Companion Plants Beetroot, beans, carrot and radish

Do not plant with cabbage

A good source of vitamin A

Use in Salads, stirfries or boil

Cut the plant when the stems reach around 20cm stripping the lower leaves and leaving the upper leaves.

Peel the outer stem and chop or slice for use in a variety of dishes.

Lettuce does not grow well in acidic soil.

Keep well watered during dry spells.

Sow thinly indoors between February - March in seed trays planting out in April spacing the plants 30cm apart and 30cm between rows.

Sow thinly outdoors April - July in drills 1.5cm deep and 30cm between rows when the seedlings appear thin to 30cm apart.
