Spinach Emilia F1 Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

A vigorous, high yielding hybrid producing long, glossy, smooth leaves with a mild, slightly sweet flavour that suits both baby-leaf salads and mature spinach dishes.

Bred for exceptional uniformity and rapid establishment, Emilia F1 crops quickly after sowing and maintains a compact habit that reduces shading and allows close spacing for higher yields.

Its strong tolerance to temperature swings and improved resistance to bolting means reliable harvesting across spring, summer and autumn when succession sown, while built in disease tolerance keeps crops productive in unpredictable seasons.

Seed Qty Approx 300

Sow February to August outdoors; later sowings from July for baby leaves only
Germination 7 to 14 days in warm, moist conditions
Soil and Position Well drained, fertile, moisture-retentive soil in full sun or partial shade; keep seedbed evenly moist
Height Compact growth to 20–30 cm
Harvest Suitable for baby leaf cut-and-come-again or full-size harvests; succession sow every 2–3 weeks

Sowing instructions

Sow thinly where plants are to crop at about 2.5 cm deep into a finely prepared seedbed. Pre-water the seedbed to improve establishment and cover seed lightly. For baby leaves sow densely and harvest young; for mature plants space seedlings to allow 10 cm between plants. Sow every 2–3 weeks for a continuous supply and restrict late summer sowings to baby-leaf production.

Grow and maintenance

Maintain steady soil moisture to avoid stress that triggers bolting. Use cloches or fleece for early and late season sowings to extend the harvest window and protect against light frosts. Thin seedlings for mature crops, leaving 10 cm between plants, or harvest outer leaves to allow continuous regrowth. Rotate crops to reduce disease pressure and remove infected foliage promptly; feed lightly with a balanced feed to support steady leaf production.

Uses and benefits

Excellent fresh in mixed salads, smoothies and sandwiches or quickly wilted in stir-fries, soups and sauces. Fast regrowth suits cut-and-come-again harvesting, delivering multiple picks per sowing. Disease tolerance and slow bolting reduce crop failure and labour, making Emilia F1 particularly valuable for small-scale growers, edible landscaping and container gardeners seeking reliable, high-quality spinach throughout the season.
