Runner Bean Benchmaster RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This red flowering bean produces high quality crops of long straight smooth pods with an excellent flavour.

An award winning variety bred for reliability they are perfect for competitions as well as the kitchen.

Sow April - July

Germination 7 - 14 days

Loam or sandy soil with alkaline or neutral soil

Harvest July - October

Companion Plants Carrots, beetroot, broccoli, cauliflower, peas and cucumber

Harvest while young pick regularly to ensure a continuous supply

A good source of Vitamin C and Iron

Use for Boiling and steaming ideal for home freezing

Sow into pots or trays on a sunny window sill or greenhouse between April - May covering the seed with 25mm of compost.

Plant out when all chance of frost has passed 30cm apart and 45cm between rows into a sunny position with moist fertile soil.

Alternatively sow direct outside into warm soil between May - July against canes or net planting 2 beans per cane 30cm apart.

Support the beans with canes or net and keep well watered during hot weather.

Plant some extra seed at the end of the row just incase some beans fail to germinate.
