Platycodon Florists Blue Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Platycodon grandiflorus Florists Blue is a striking perennial that adds elegance and charm to any garden with its large, balloon-like buds that open into vibrant blue star-shaped flowers. Known for its unique flower buds, which puff up before unfurling, this variety is perfect for adding texture and colour to borders, containers, or cutting gardens.

The name Platycodon is derived from the Greek words "platy," meaning flat, and "kodon," meaning bell, referring to the plant's bell-shaped blooms. Florists Blue features deep blue flowers, creating a beautiful contrast in any garden setting.

This hardy plant thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and full sun to partial shade. Platycodon Florists Blue grows to a height of 30 - 45 cm, making it an excellent choice for the front or middle of borders, rock gardens, or as part of a mixed container display. Its long-lasting flowers are not only a delight for the eyes but also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained seed compost from February to March. Lightly cover the seeds and keep at 18-21°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared, weed-free soil from April to May. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing for healthy growth.

Platycodon Florists Blue is perfect for adding a touch of elegance and charm to your garden. Its unique flower buds and striking blue blooms make it a standout in any border, rock garden, or mixed container.
