Linaria Northern Lights Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Linaria purpurea Northern Lights is a vibrant and eye-catching annual that adds a burst of colour and elegance to any garden. Known for its tall spires of delicate, snapdragon-like flowers in shades of white, pink, and purple, this variety creates a cheerful, upright display that works beautifully in borders, cutting gardens, or cottage-style plantings.

The name Linaria comes from the Latin "linum," meaning flax, referring to its slender, flax-like leaves, while purpurea highlights the purple hues of many of its blooms.

Thriving in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and full sun, Linaria Northern Lights grows to a height of 60 - 90 cm. It is perfect for creating vertical interest in garden beds and attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.

This variety is known for its long flowering season, making it an excellent addition to any garden looking for long-lasting beauty and pollinator support.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained seed compost from March to April. Lightly cover the seeds and maintain a temperature of 15-18°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle, and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared, weed-free soil from April to May. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing for healthy growth.

Linaria Northern Lights is perfect for gardeners seeking a cheerful, colourful addition to their garden. Its bright, snapdragon-like flowers create an elegant yet playful display, ideal for borders, meadows, or mixed containers.
