Lettuce Little Gem Seed - Irish Plants Direct

This semi cos lettuce is a compact variety with a sweet flavoured small tight heads with crispy crunchy hearts.

It is early in the season to mature, sow little and often for a continuous supply.

Perfect for smaller gardens or container growing.

Germination 7 - 14 days

Loam or sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest May - October

Companion Plants Beetroot, beans, carrot and radish

Do not plant with cabbage

Cut the lettuce when they are large enough.

A good source of vitamin A

Use in Salad and sandwiches

Make successional sowings in fertile well drained soil in a sheltered sunny spot fortnightly to ensure a good supply throughout summer.

Lettuce does not grow well in acidic soil.

Keep well watered during dry spells. Suitable for growing in pots and containers.

Sow thinly indoors during March in seed trays planting out in April spacing the plants 15cm apart.

Sow thinly outdoors April - July in drills 1.5cm deep and 15cm between rows when the seedlings appear thin to 15cm apart.
