This bulbous vegetable has tall feathery foliage that can be used as herb fennel.

 

Grow in the vegetable garden for its attractive swollen roots with a mild aniseed flavour and a texture like celery.

Sow into well raked prepared fertile soil between April - May.

 

The drills should be around 2cm deep and well watered sow the seed thinly each drill should be around 40cm apart.

 

Thin out the seedlings to 25cm when they emerge usually between 7 - 21 days to grow on. Earth up the roots when the bulbs begin to swell to preserve the whiteness and flavour of the bulb keep the plants well watered in warm weather.

 

They do not like Root disturbance. 

 

All parts of the plant can be eaten.
