Convolvulus Blue Ensign RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Convolvulus sabatius 'Blue Ensign' is a stunning trailing plant that brings vibrant, sky-blue blooms to your garden or patio.

This variety of Convolvulus, also known as trailing bindweed, is renowned for its profuse flowering habit, producing an abundance of bright, funnel-shaped flowers that contrast beautifully with its lush green foliage.

The name Convolvulus comes from the Latin word convolvulus, meaning "to wind or twist," which reflects the plant’s natural habit of trailing and climbing. Blue Ensign stands out with its rich, intense blue flowers that are perfect for hanging baskets, containers, and cascading over garden walls.

This vigorous and hardy plant grows to a height of 30 - 45 cm, with a spread of up to 90 cm, making it ideal for use in containers, window boxes, or as a ground cover. Convolvulus Blue Ensign thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and enjoys full sun, where it will flower from early summer to autumn.

It is a wonderful choice for brightening up your outdoor spaces and attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

As part of the RHS Seed Scheme, Convolvulus Blue Ensign is guaranteed to provide high-quality seeds for excellent germination and strong growth, ensuring beautiful results in your garden.

Deadheading spent flowers encourages continuous blooming throughout the summer, and the plant will often self-seed for future years of stunning displays.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from February to March. Lightly cover the seeds with compost or vermiculite, and maintain a temperature of 18-21°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots, harden off, and plant outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared, weed-free soil from April to May. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing for healthy growth.

Convolvulus Blue Ensign is perfect for brightening up patios, balconies, hanging baskets, or garden walls. Its vibrant blue flowers and trailing growth habit create a stunning, cascading effect, and its easy care makes it ideal for both beginner and experienced gardeners.
