Californian Poppy Apricot Chiffon RHS Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Eschscholzia californica 'Apricot Chiffon' is a soft and graceful variety of the Californian Poppy, prized for its delicate apricot-orange blooms that have a silky, chiffon-like texture. These stunning, cup-shaped flowers add a touch of elegance and warmth to any garden.

The name Eschscholzia is derived from the German botanist Johann Friedrich Eschscholtz, while californica refers to its native habitat in California. Apricot Chiffon is particularly cherished for its unique pastel shades and its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions.

This hardy annual grows to a height of 30 - 40 cm, making it an ideal plant for borders, wildflower meadows, or mixed containers.

The plant thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and prefers full sun, where its flowers can open wide and bask in the warmth. Californian Poppy Apricot Chiffon is also known for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies, making it a great addition to any wildlife-friendly garden.

Recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding performance, Californian Poppy Apricot Chiffon is part of the RHS Seed Scheme, ensuring that you receive top-quality seeds for guaranteed success in your garden.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Sow seeds in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from March to April. Lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of compost and maintain a temperature of 18-21°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle, then harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost.

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared, weed-free soil from April to May. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to the recommended spacing for healthy growth.

With its delicate apricot blooms and easy-care nature, Californian Poppy Apricot Chiffon is a wonderful addition to garden borders, wildflower meadows, or container plantings. Its cheerful flowers will brighten up any garden, while its low-maintenance growth makes it a fantastic choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.
